ONE OF THE MOST satisfying celebrity beefs (beeves?) of our time is the Katy Perry/Taylor Swift feud, which has offered up no end of drama since 2014.
Taylor even got a song out of it – Bad Blood, which she paired with an over-the-top video full of female friends.
It’s been quiet on the feud front for a while, but Katy caused a bit of a commotion on Friday with the release of her new single Swish Swish, believed to be her response to Bad Blood.
Swift’s mate Ruby Rose thought so anyway, and said as much on Twitter:
The story has always been that Katy ‘stole’ backing dancers from Taylor and “tried to sabotage an entire arena tour” – but according to Katy, Taylor started it.
Speaking to James Corden during a Carpool Karaoke segment, she finally told her side of the story:
OK, so there are three backing dancers that went on tour with her, right? And they asked me before they went on tour if they could go, and I was like, Yeah, of course. I’m not on a record cycle, and get the work, and she’s great and all that. But I will be on a record cycle in about a year, so be sure to put a 30-day contingency in your contract so you can get out if you want to join me…
I texted all of them – because I’m very close with them – and I said, “Look, just FYI: I’m about to start, I want to put the word out there.” And they talked to management about it, and they got fired. I tried to talk to [Taylor] about it, and she wouldn’t speak to me.
“It was a full shutdown and then she writes a song about me. And I’m like, “Oh, cool, cool, cool… that’s how you wanna deal with it?” Karma,” Katy continued.
But she does believe that “women together will heal the world”, so she wants to put it all behind her fairly sharpish. With one condition, however – Taylor must say sorry first.
James: So would it be enough to just receive a text from Taylor Swift that just said “The beef is off the grill”?
Katy: One hundred percent.
Could this be the year these crazy kids finally work things out? We’re torn. On the one side, get over yourselves. On the other, GIVE US MORE DRAMZZZ.
